July
2, 2003 - Day 5
This
morning we left early - at 4 am. Most animals are active in the morning,
and we tried to see as many as possible. We were partially rewarded -
besides caribou, we saw arctic foxes, ptarmigans and many other birds.
However, we didn't achieve our main goal - to see musk ox. There
were several sighting reported recently between Deadhorse and Atigun
Pass, but we were out of luck again..jpg)
We
stopped at Coldfoot for food and gas, then drove south. We saw several
moose right by the road, and three moose in Grayling Lake. We also saw a
porcupine right on the road.
This
was the only rainy day of the whole trip. For a couple of hours it was
pouring. However, later in the evening it cleared up again.
We
had one day left, so we we wanted to catch some fish before we left.
That's why we drove back to Jim River - we knew that this was a great
fishing spot. We were right this time - the evening fishing for grayling
was excellent.
